OF LAYERS AND LIGHT
Our Melrose Park project designed by Sphere Landscape Design and Horticultural Services stands out for its polished construction and thoughtful integration of structure and nature.
It’s a garden of layers and light where beautifully constructed structures and hardscaping provide the boundaries from which plantings are encouraged to escape. Evoking a sense of respect for the natural rhythms and patterns of the environment.
These layers of natural and built elements mean each space can be enjoyed looking through or past elements as much as within each space itself.
The project’s highlights include the decked courtyard with its overhead structures supporting climbing plants and framing a feature tree in its Corten steel planter, which whimsically winds up through the overhead beams. An inground trampoline, climbing frame, and luxury pots and planters for a number of feature plants and a small but well-appointed raised vegetable patch.
Accompanying the pool, installed by another contractor, are detailed built elements such as the cantilevered laser cut shade structure, concrete seating, raised planters and inviting lawn.
A path, lined with individually lit stepping stones, cuts neatly through the lawn, and is a hint of the amazing lighting, adding and enhancing layers throughout.
The scope of work was comprehensive, requiring us to manage many logistical challenges along the way, but it has culminated in a cohesive and inviting outdoor space, blending wilding structures with natural beauty.
